MSME loans: finance for micro, small and medium enterprises
An MSME loan is business finance for an enterprise that falls within India’s micro, small or medium enterprise definitions. Bank lending to MSMEs is part of RBI’s priority-sector framework, and several government-backed schemes support it. The best known is the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) scheme, which lets lenders give eligible micro and small enterprises credit without collateral.
Registering on the Udyam portal is the usual way to establish MSME status with lenders. Early Grow helps with both the registration and the loan application.
Types of MSME finance
- Term loans – for expansion, premises or machinery.
- Working capital – cash credit, overdraft or invoice finance for the operating cycle. MSMEs can also discount invoices on RBI-regulated TReDS platforms.
- Machinery and equipment loans – secured on the assets being bought.
- Scheme-linked loans – finance offered under government schemes, where the lender and your enterprise are eligible.
